A Heritage from Arabic Times
Az-Zagal is a refuge in the heart of Alto Alentejo, located in an old manor house in the village of Casa Branca, in Sousel.
The name Az-Zagal refers to Quinta do Zagalo, an ancient 15th-century agricultural property in the region. Zagalo is one of several Portuguese words whose origin attests to Arab influence in the country, especially in the Alentejo.
In name and architectural features, Casa Az-Zagal incorporates and pays homage to the Arab heritage and the spirit of hospitality that it left preserved forever in Alentejo culture.

The house, built in 1924, has been completely revitalized to welcome those who are passionate about the region in a space of comfort and tranquility.
With 13 rooms, various living rooms, a dining room, and a small library, Casa Az-Zagal is an elegant rural tourism accommodation that welcomes guests in the true Alentejo way: with open arms. Here, in the slow and warm rhythm of the region, days are enjoyed by the pool, and nights are spent stargazing in the garden.
